After acquiring Rodney McGruder late in the 2018-19 season, the LA Clippers apparently saw enough in practice to re-sign the three-year veteran, according to a report by Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

The 27-year-old McGruder spent his first three seasons with the Miami Heat after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Waived on April 7 this year after averaging 7.6 ppg and 3.6 rpg in 23.5 minutes across 66 games with Miami, McGruder was claimed by the Clippers on April 9, though he didn't appear in a game for LA.
ESPN's Bobby Marks quickly noted that the contract, due to McGruder's existing cap hold, shouldn't impact the Clippers' pursuit of free agent whale Kawhi Leonard:
The Rodney McGruder deal with LAC (per @ChrisBHaynes ) has no impact on the ability to sign a player to a max contract. The McGruder $3M free agent hold was factored into the max slot that is available.— Bobby Marks (@BobbyMarks42) July 3, 2019
