Tyronn Lue is headed to LA after all. Except he's joining the Clippers, not the Lakers.
Per a report by The New York Times' Marc Stein, Tyronn Lue is set to join the staff of head coach Doc Rivers, assuming the position of top assistant.
It's a job that should be familiar to him - Lue was Rivers' assistant from 2011 to 2013 with the Boston Celtics, and then from 2013 to 2014 with these same Clips.
He followed that up with an associate head coach stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, which led to him being named head coach, a job that lasted from 2016 to 2018, and included the franchise's sole NBA title.
However, a 0-6 start to the 2018-19 season saw him get fired by the Cavs. He then spent the remainder of the season working in an informal role with Rivers and the Clippers.
Earlier this past offseason, Lue had been one of the reported favorites to coach the LA Lakers, but the two sides couldn't agree on contract details. That job instead went to Frank Vogel.
The Clippers and Lakers will play each other four times, including on opening night.
