If any journey of 'A Thousand Miles' indeed begins with a single step, New Orleans Pelicans rookie Nickeil Alexander-Walker appears ready for the rest of them.

At Saturday's (Sunday, PHL time) Open Practice in the Smoothie King Center, the No. 17 overall pick stepped out to center court for a good-natured rookie moment, and fully embraced his mission: covering Vanessa Carlton's Grammy-nominated debut single.

The 2002 song, which peaked at No. 5 on that year's Billboard Hot 100, unexpectedly earned a meme-worthy revival within NBA circles during the summer of 2016, when Team USA broke into a mid-flight sing-along that notably included Draymond Green, DeMar DeRozan, Jimmy Butler and a blanket-enfolded Kevin Durant. Carmelo Anthony was memorably nonplussed.
