Kai Sotto's select team in the NBA G League finally has a coach.
First reported by Shams Charania for The Athletic and Stadium, former Los Angeles Laker Brian Shaw will take over as head coach for the G-League select team that has top Fil-Am prospect Jalen Green and the 7'2" Sotto.
As a player, Shaw was a first round pick for the Boston Celtics but had his greatest success with the Lakers.
Shaw was part of the first 3-peat in Los Angeles led by Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal during the early 2000s.
After his playing days were over, Shaw stayed with the Lakers as an assistant coach from 2005 all the way to 2011.
Shaw spent another few seasons as an assistant and later associate head coach for the Indiana Pacers before he got his first head coaching gig for the Denver Nuggets in 2013.
After two season with the Nuggets, Shaw eventually returned to the Lakers as part of Luke Walton's staff until last year.
In the G League select team, Shaw will coach Jalen Green, the no. 1 player in the class of 2020, and Kai Sotto, the 7'2" teen phenom that's trying to be the first homegrown Filipino player to play in the NBA.
