Generals embark upon another rebuilding campaign
SEIZING THE MOMENT. Head coach Andy de Guzman and Sydney Onwubere are relishing the opportunity to prove themselves as the main men for EAC.

YES, THEY’RE STILL HERE: Sydney Onwubere

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY: Hamadou Laminou, Remy Morada (returning), Francis Munsayac (returning)

GOOD LUCK ON FUTURE ENDEAVORS: Cedric Noube Happi, Jan Jamon, John Tayongtong

Following a breakthrough 10-win finish a couple of years back, Emilio Aguinaldo College turned in a letdown of a season during the last NCAA tournament as they fell back to the bottom of the standings.

With the graduation of their top three scorers in Cedric Noube Happi, Jan Jamon, and John Tayongtong and the exit of head coach Gerry Esplana, things do not seem to be looking up for the Generals who are right back to rebuilding in their first season as an official member of the country’s oldest collegiate league.

Talking about their goals for the season, new mentor Andy de Guzman told ABS-CBN Sports, “We want to win as much as we can, but we’re still rebuilding the team.”

As all of their double-digit scorers are no longer around, the burden of carrying the team will now fall on second-year player Sydney Onwubere. The Laguna native averaged a near double-double of 8.8 points and 9.2 rebounds last season, but showed during the preseason that he is ready and willing to take more of a leading role.

Collaborating with the new apparent lead General will be returning Francis Munsayac and Remy Morada. The backcourt duo will serve as heady playmakers and solid deep threats that will only help in improving the team’s last-place finish in terms of assists as well as fortifying their third-place finish in terms of three-pointers.

Replacing go-to-guy Happi inside will be Hamadou Laminou who will have to get used to opponents – locals and imports alike – taking advantage of his lack of heft. What the Cameroonian has, however, are long limbs that will go a long way in stabilizing a team that ended at the bottom three in terms of points allowed and rebounding.

Nonetheless, de Guzman repeatedly stated that his team is far from a finished product. “The imports, medyo kulang pa sa laro. The team, we are still in the process of adjustment,” he said.

However, that should not fool anyone into thinking that the Ermita-based team is punting away the season. “I still believe we have a better team than the other team. Pantay-pantay yan, nakakasabay kami pero kelangan lang ng consistency,” de Guzman shared.

EAC starts their NCAA Season 91 campaign against five-time champion San Beda College on July 2 at the San Juan Arena. The game will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23 at 2:00 PM and will also be streamed LIVE on ABS-CBN
