OUTCLASSING THE OPPONENT. Five-peat champion San Beda outclassed EAC right from the start on the back of another masterful performance from Art Dela Cruz.
Baser Amer and Ola Adeogun made their debuts in the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament, but Art Dela Cruz still proved to be the engine that kept San Beda College's monster of a machine roaring.
The fourth-year forward tallied 22 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists as the Red Lions manhandled the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 108-80, on Thursday at the San Juan Arena.
Dela Cruz roared right from the start by scoring six points in the first six minutes to give San Beda a nine-point edge. Head coach Jamike Jarin's fast-paced attack then widened the margin via back-to-back 33 and 31 point quarters that sent the score at 88-57 heading into the final frame.
EAC was finally able to get going and trimmed their deficit to 74-92 with four minutes remaining, but back-to-back hits from Adeogun stopped their rally short.
AC Soberano added 12 points off the bench as the Red Lions did not even need Amer and Adeogun to contribute much.
Talking about keeping their foot on the gas throughout the game, coach Jamike Jarin said in his post-game conference, “No complacency. We go 110 percent all-out.”
Francis Munsayac’s 20 markers led the effort for the Generals who suffered a defeat in their first outing of the season.
