MANNY, MANNY MOTIVATION. Manny Pacquiao's entry has only inspired Letran even more in their 2-0 start to the season.
Even though their newly-minted team manager’s appearance during their game on Friday at the San Juan Arena turned out to be a false alarm, coach Aldin Ayo still believed his Colegio de San Juan de Letran were more inspired than usual.
“Of course, Manny Pacquiao yun e. Pangalan pa lang, motivation na,” Ayo said referring to boxing’s People’s Champion who was named the Knights’ team manager last Wednesday.
Celebrating the development, the Intramuros-based school paraded new threads with “Pacman’s” personal logo printed on them.
More than the updated uniforms, Pacquiao’s influence was felt during Letran’s 78-62 downing of Jose Rizal University.
Team captain Mark Cruz scored 12 points and was at the forefront of a non-stop full-court press that kept the Heavy Bombers’ on the ground. Talking about their inspired play, Cruz told ABS-CBN Sports, “Masaya kaming nandito na si boss Manny. Definitely, isa yun sa mga factor bakit ganyan nilaro namin.”
However, the Knight who has been most vocal about what Pacquiao means to the team is top-gunner Rey Nambatac. “Gusto ni boss Manny ng underdogs and kami yun. Maliit yung lineup tapos wala pang import so we’re very privileged to be receiving his support,” he shared.
Nambatac backed up his words with a breakthrough performance of 25 points, including four triples.
Ayo, Cruz, Nambatac, and the rest of the Knights are on their way to Pacquiao’s place for a dinner to “formalize” their partnership.
