As part of their continued support to local sports, Smart Communications launched its newest list of sports ambassadors by tapping 10 outstanding basketball players from the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Known as the “Smart Elite” the group of collegiate stars were introduced to the media Wednesday at the Outback Steakhouse in Libis, Quezon City led by Gilas Pilipinas cadets Baser Amer of San Beda Red Lions, Jiovani Jalalon of Arellano University Chiefs and NCAA reigning MVP Earl Scottie Thompson of Perpetual Help Altas.

These young men were chosen as role models in a bid to encourage the Filipino youth to cultivate the passion for sports.

“The no. 1 criteria that we considered in looking for players that are outstanding and achievers both in the court representing their school and some who represented the country’s colors in the international arena,” said Smart Communications Sports Marketing Manager Epok Quimpo, a former UAAP champion from the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles.

Completing the group are Rey Nambatac of Letran Knights, Jonathan Grey of College of St. Benilde Blazers, Francis Munsayac of Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, Tey Teodoro of Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, Joseph Gabayni of Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, Brawyn Guinto of San Sebastian Stags and Andretti Stevens of Mapua Cardinals.

NCAA fans can catch games by using their mobile devices via livestream at sports.abs-cbn.com.

The country’s biggest network partnered with Smart, along with PLDT Home, for online streaming of NCAA events to enable fans to enjoy the games even outside the comfort of their homes.

NCAA basketball games are aired live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action.

Quimpo said that Smart is also planning to tap cage players from the UAAP, which will open on September 5 and will be aired live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action with livestreaming on sports.abs-cbn.com, for another set of its elite athletes list.
