No Grey skies in CSB as first win takes away frustrations
CLEAR SKIES IN TAFT. Jonathan Grey admitted to letting out his frustrations, but was more than happy he and his teammates pulled through in the end to take their first win in the season.

College of St. Benilde tallied their first win in the NCAA 91 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.

However, victory did not come as easy as they hoped with top-gunner Jonathan Grey even letting out his frustrations in numerous instances – both on the court and on the bench.

Asked about his outbursts of emotion after the game, Grey shared with ABS-CBN Sports, “Nafu-frustrate lang kasi kapag duma-drive ako tapos yung mga bantay nagko-collapse sakin, pinapasa ko. Kaso minsan, sobrang dali, hindi na nila nasu-shoot.”

He then added, “Na-badtrip lang ng konti kanina. Nakakapanghina kasi siyempre pag sumasablay sila, tatakbo ulit kami sa depensa. Nakakapagod lang.”

Indeed, the fifth-year guard ended with only two assists despite serving as the team’s primary playmaker for most of the game.

Also for majority of the contest, the Blazers held on to a double-digit lead before Emilio Aguinaldo College used a 27-point fourth quarter to threaten at 59-65 with 1:15 remaining. It was at that point that Grey decided to take the shots himself instead of creating plays for his teammates by mounting a personal 5-2 run to put the game out of reach.

Talking about his endgame takeover, the Laguna native said, “Wala talaga. Kelangan mag-take over kasi nakikita kong wala nang gumagalaw.”

Grey also shared that he apologized to both his teammates and coaches for letting out his frustrations. “Nag-sorry ako sa kanila after the game. Sabi naman nila, ‘Sus, wala yun. Naiintindihan namin. Basta gawin mo lang kung anong gusto mong gawin. Nandito lang kami sa likod mo.’”

Even more motivated because of his fellow Blazers’ trust, Grey promised to take charge even more from now on by saying, “’Di na lang scoring iniisip ko. Pati leadership, kelangan ko na talaga mag-take over kasi ako na talaga yung beterano.”
