IN CONTROL. Jiovani Jalalon provided all the answers for Arellano while also becoming all the questions for EAC.
The more than a week layoff did not seem to affect Arellano University in any way as they earned their second consecutive victory in the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament in spectacular fashion.
Jiovani Jalalon posted a triple-double and the Chiefs had 51 points in the first half alone en route to a 92-80 rout of the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.
EAC had no answer for Arellano’s court general who was in total control and had six points, eight assists, and five rebounds to go along with three steals in the first two quarters to boost the Chiefs to a 51-33 advantage.
The Generals trimmed the deficit to single digits five times in the last five minutes, but each time, Jalalon created a play that led to a basket and re-established a comfortable double-digit lead. All in all, the third-year guard claimed a first-ever triple-double with a total of 12 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds.
Jalalon also turned the ball over seven times, but coach Jerry Codinera said he was definitely taking the bad over the good. “It makes your job easier when you have a point guard like him,” he said in his post-game conference.
Sidney Onwubere’s 26 points and 10 rebounds led the effort for EAC which remained winless in three games.
