WHO'S FOR REAL? Only one between Jamike Jarin's high-octane offense for San Beda and Aldin Ayo's non-stop pressure defense for Letran will remain undefeated after today.
Games on Thursday at the San Juan Arena
2:00 PM – Lyceum vs CSB
4:00 PM – San Beda vs Letran
The most impressive offensive and defensive teams thus far in the 91st Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament are headed full steam towards an early-season collision to determine who will rise to a share at the top of the leaderboard.
Making things even more interesting is the fact that those teams are also the featured rivalry and the winningest schools in the country’s oldest collegiate league. Explosive San Beda College clashes with stifling Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Thurday at the San Juan Arena.
The Red Lions-Knights rivalry is rekindled at 4:00 PM.
New head coach Jamike Jarin has San Beda whipping the ball around and then dropping bombs from all over the court en route to averaging 105 points through two wins. Fourth-year forward Art Dela Cruz has put out MVP-caliber numbers with 24.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
Letran has a stellar first-year mentor of their own in Aldin Ayo who has them employing non-stop full-court pressure which has forced more than 30 turnovers in each of their back-to-back victories. At the other end, third-year guard Rey Nambatac delivered a career-best performance the last time around with 25 points.
Meanwhile, College of St. Benilde looks to build on their first victory in three games while Lyceum of the Philippines University looks to build on their strong showings that ended in two defeats.
The Blazers finally got on the win column via a 73-66 triumph over Emilio Aguinaldo College. On the other hand, although they stand at 0-2, the Pirates gave title contenders Arellano University and University of Perpetual Help all they could handle.
