Rey Nambatac: No Stanger to Discipline
-- Rey Nambatac

The Letran Knights certainly do not look and play like a team in transition as they continue to impress with their performance, now holding a 4-0 win-loss record in the league.

Veteran players like Mark Cruz and Rey Nambatac said that what they think makes this squad different from last year's are defense and, most especially, discipline. Rey even cited several instances that show how reasonably strict new head coach Aldin Ayo is whether it be in trainings or in games. Star player man o hindi."

Discipline, however, isn't something new to the third year Marketing Major, who always strives to keep his priorities in check.

Nambatac shared that while he does dream of making it to the PBA one day, he understands that basketball can't last a lifetime. "Pag PBA kasi, siguro maximum mo doon is 15 years. Saan ka na niyan pupunta pagkatapos?"

As a leader to his Knights, he also feels the responsibility of becoming a student-athlete role model to his teammates and of making them realize the importance of an education. Ever since he started college, Rey hasn't failed any of his subjects so far and wants to keep the record clean until he marches for his diploma. Mahirap pero kinakaya at kakayanin pa.

Being a baller all his life, Rey hopes to still be involved in the world he grew up in even long after his playing years. The dream, he said, is to eventually become a coach.

But if that doesn't work out for him, the next best option would be business.

I think we could all learn a thing or two from Rey Nambatac. It's also very refreshing to see a big shot like him break the typical jock stereotype. Now as long as he stays disciplined and focused, Rey is sure to succeed as an athlete in Letran and an individual in the bigger spectrum that is life.
