LIFTOFF. Leaning on back-to-back big games from Teytey Teodoro, JRU has won three consecutive games.
Teytey Teodoro took up right where he left off and Jose Rizal University is on a three-game roll in the 91st Season of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Following a 16-point outburst in the fourth quarter of their last game, Teodoro poured in 12 of his 21 points in the first half to pilot the Heavy Bombers up and away from the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 67-49, on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.
CSB managed to keep the contest close in the first 10 minutes and were only behind, 14-15, before being held to only eight points in the second quarter. At the other end, the Bombers scored 24 points punctuated by Teodoro’s buzzer-beating triple that widened the margin to 39-22 at the half.
JRU did not give up any inch from that point to rise to their third straight win and a 4-2 record. Talking about his emerging star, coach Vergel Meneses said in his post-game conference, “Sabi ko kay Tey, you're my go-to-guy here. I know his capacity as a big-time player.”
JR Ongteco and Fons Saavedra had 10 points apiece as the Blazers were held to 49 points – just two more than the lowest single game output during the season – to drop to 1-5.
