Perpetual's Dagangon on their loss: "Basketball pakapalan dapat ng mukha."

“Hindi nagco-contribute yung iba eh. Siguro hindi pa nila nabibigyang kumpyansa sarili nila. O natatakot na kung magkamali, mapapagalitan. Eh kailangan nila maintindindihan na ganun talaga. Basketball pakapalan dapat ng mukha.” --- Gab Dagangon
Some time in the third quarter, San Beda was pulling away and Perpetual was getting into more serious trouble. But Gab Dagangon shot his threes and sent the Altas cruising into a manageable distance from the Red Lions.
“Masarap yung moments na yun para sa akin kasi doon humabol. Pero nakakapanghinayang na sa kabila nun, talo pa rin.”
The UPHDS Altas suffered their second consecutive and overall loss this season after falling short in their match against the defending champions, 83-81. Import Bright Akhuetie felt that this defeat is not as disappointing as the one against Letran, but Gab begged to differ. “Parehas masakit kasi pag natatalo ka, bumababa. Nasa top kami pero bumaba pa lalo ngayon.”
The atmosphere inside the dugout after the game was described to be very somber. No sermons, no words. Just blank stares and that deafening silence. From the looks on everyone’s faces, it was easy to tell how disappointed they all were. But if there’s anyone in particular who took it a little harder, it was, by far, Scottie Thompson.
Bright and Gab took turns in consoling the former NCAA MVP, especially the latter being one of his closest friends in the team. “Si Scott masyadong dinibdib. Iniisip niya siguro na siya ang dahilan. Sabi ko bawi nalang next time. Wala nang magagawa, para sa kanila (San Beda) talaga siguro yung laro.”
Although seemingly optimistic in front of his buddy, Gab couldn’t hide his frustration while granting us the interview. A loss is easier to accept when you know you’ve given it your all. But he felt that his team hasn’t been performing their best in the last two meetings.
“Hindi nagco-contribute yung iba eh. Siguro hindi pa nila nabibigyang kumpyansa sarili nila. O natatakot na kung magkamali, mapapagalitan. Eh kailangan nila maintindindihan na ganun talaga. Basketball pakapalan dapat ng mukha.”
Bouncing back is easier said than done and Gab admitted that he doesn’t know where to begin. But he is sure of one thing – the three of them can only do so much. “Kung kahit isa hindi magtrabaho, wala yung buong team.” He hopes that the rest of the Perpetual boys realize that before it’s too late.
