GREY SKIES. Jonathan Grey was everywhere as CSB finally broke out of their three-game slump.
In their previous outing, Jonathan Grey was held to single digits for the first time in the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament.
On Tuesday at the San Juan Arena, the fifth-year guard had 20 points in the first two quarters alone and finished with a stout line of 29 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and two steals to fan the Blazers to a 88-66 blowout win against the San Sebastián College-Recoletos Golden Stags.
Grey's huge first half allowed the Blazers to boost from a 22-22 tie all the way to a 39-26 advantage late in the second. Fons Saavedra then joined in on the fun in the second half to end with 20 points, including six triples – matching the output of the entire San Sebastian side.
More than his stars coming out to play, coach Gabby Velasco pointed to his team's energy as the reason they rose to 2-5. “We had a different attitude today. Our rebounds proved that our hustle was back after two straight uninspired games,” he said.
Bradwyn Guinto pounded in a 16-point, 16-rebound double-double, but the Stags saw their 20 turnovers converted into 22 points to drop to 1-6.
