LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN. Rey Nambatac and Letran need three more wins - all against non-Final Four squads a year ago - to complete a sweep of the first round.
Games on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena
2:00 PM – CSB vs San Sebastian
4:00 PM – Letran vs Lyceum
Colegio de San Juan de Letran is perfect thus far in the 91st Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and has already taken down all semifinalists from a year ago.
The Knights continue in their conquest for a sweep of the first round against the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.
The Battle of Intramuros commences at 4:00 PM.
Whether it’s Mark Cruz, Rey Nambatac, Kevin Racal, or Jom Sollano, players just keep stepping up for new head coach Aldin Ayo. Because he immediately won his Knights over, the Sorsogon native’s “magulo basketball” has indeed sent any and every preseason projections into chaos.
Chaos was also what the Pirates used to nearly pull off an incredible comeback the last time around. Topex Robinson’s wards ultimately fell to 1-5 at the end of it, but not before Shaq Alanes and Mer Ayaay’s outburst made their opponents feel like it was them who lost the game.
Meanwhile, two teams tied with Lyceum at the bottom of the standings shoot for their second win of the season when the College of St. Benilde Blazers meet the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags at 2:00 PM.
Both teams are coming off three consecutive defeats with CSB’s Jonathan Grey and San Sebastian’s Jamil Ortuoste finding little help in carrying their squads. To break out of their slumps, Golden Stags Bradwyn Guinto and Michael Calisaan and Blazers Fons Saavedra and JR Ongteco need to show up on a consistent basis.
