SAME OLD, SAME OLD. San Beda again used its time-tested winning formula to earn their fourth win in a row.
San Beda College’s old reliables came through once more to extend their winning streak to four in the 91st Season of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Art Dela Cruz, Ola Adeogun, and Dan Sara merged for 20 points in the final frame to allow the Red Lions to pull away from the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 88-69, on Thursday at the San Juan Arena.
The five-peat champions were in control and built a 12-point lead in the middle of the third before Paolo Pontejos bombed in five points in a 13-3 run that closed JRU to 56-58 early in the fourth.
It was at that point that San Beda’s old reliables took over to outperform all of the Bombers who only managed 15 in the final frame. Dela Cruz ended with 29 points, six rebounds, and nine assists while Sara and Adeogun chipped in 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Head coach Jamike Jarin pointed to how they took care of the ball as the reason for their fourth consecutive victory coming from a 2-1 record. “We had less than 20 turnovers against a team who presses well so that's a good sign for us,” he said in his post-game conference.
Teytey Teodoro showed he way for JRU with 16 points, but only three in the second half to see his team drop to 4-3.
