REPRIMANDED. Mapua's Atoy Co and Letran's Aldin Ayo will not be on the bench the next time their respective teams take the floor.
Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Mapua Institute of Technology will have to make their return to the floor in the ongoing NCAA 91 Men’s Basketball Tournament without their respective coaches.
The oldest collegiate league announced last Thursday that one-game suspensions have been levied upon Aldin Ayo of the Knights and Atoy Co of the Cardinals for separate incidents during their previous outings.
Last Tuesday, Ayo disputed a call made by a referee and threw a monobloc chair towards the direction of the locker rooms. The Letran coach incurred a technical foul for his actions.
According to league commissioner Bai Cristobal, they have already given Ayo a first warning for his run-in with a game official in an earlier contest. As such, the Knights mentor’s fit of rage already necessitated sanctions as Cristobal said, “We have house rules off and on the court. Because of the first warning na binigay ko sa kanya, this second letter that we will give him is for suspension for the next game.”
On the other hand, Co was ejected a week ago after also contesting a referee’s call. The Mapua coach was first whistled a technical foul for continuous complaining before taking off his shirt and waving it in front of their supporters and incurring another “T.”
As Cristobal put it, “Kay Atoy Co, meron tayong house rules na with two technical fouls, automatic ejection. Anybody thrown out by the referees from the playing court will be suspended in the next scheduled game.”
Co’s Cardinals will meet College of Saint Benilde while Ayo’s Knights will take on Emilio Aguinaldo College both on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
