BLOCK PARTY. Allwelll Oraeme was a nuisance for his opponents as he had eight blocks.
CJ Isit was brought to the hospital, Josan Nimes hurt his leg, and head coach Atoy Co was not on the bench so Mapua Institute of Technology turned to Allwelll Oraeme to keep rolling in the 91st Season of the Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Nigerian reinforcement pounded in a 19-point, 20-rebound double-double to power the Cardinals to a 76-64 triumph over the College of St. Benilde Blazers on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
Even without Co, who was serving a one-game suspension, the Cardinals took control from the get-go with a 29-7 first quarter. CSB was unable to do anything with Oraeme standing in their way also ending with eight blocks.
Rookie JJ Domingo turned it on with 12 points in a 26-9 final frame for the Blazers which proved to be too little, too late.
Talking about their third consecutive victory coming from a 1-3 record, assistant coach Ed Cordero said in his post-game conference, “We had to dedicate this game for coach Atoy.”
Domingo and Jonathan Grey scored 14 points apiece for CSB which fell to 2-6.
