With a towering Nigerian right in front of him and Jose Rizal University's winning record in the NCAA 91 Men’s Baskeball Tournament on the line, Teytey Teodoro spun to the left and found himself wide open.

Teodoro’s layup found the bottom of the net in spite of Allwell Oraeme’s outstretched arm right behind him to complete the Heavy Bombers’ thrilling 90-87 come from behind victory against the Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.

The Cardinals broke the game wide open via a 30-point third quarter that gave them a huge 84-66 lead with 3:43 remaining. However, the Bombers’ second-year guard refused to quit and spearheaded a massive 20-3 surge that trimmed the deficit to only 86-87 with 11 ticks on the clock.

Teodoro missed what would-have been the game-tying free throw, but Oraeme stepped on the line while trying to secure the rebound. Again with the possession, JRU gave the ball to Teodoro and that was the time Vergel Meneses’ go-to-guy drove for the go-ahead layup.

Andretti Stevens turned the ball over in the inbound and seconds later, two free throws by Dave Sanchez cemented the Bombers’ ascent to 5-3. Meneses shared in his post-game conference that he actually did not tell his boys anything during their furious fightback.

“Yung instinct ng player, dun na lalabas. Lahat kanina, they did it on their own,” he said. Teodoro finished with a career-high 32 points – 18 in the fourth – to go along with three steals.

Mapua saw their winning streak get snapped to fall to 4-4 despite the best efforts of Oraeme who had 25 points and 19 rebounds.
