As the only team that has beaten them is perfect no more, San Beda College now has a chance to regain a spot atop the leaderboard in the NCAA 91 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Red Lions try to secure win number seven and move into a tie for first place when they battle longtime rivals San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Thursday at the San Juan Arena.
One of the most bitter rivalries in the country’s oldest collegiate league is rekindled at 4:00 PM.
With the fall of Intramuros-based Letran’s perfect record, the five-peat champions are officially the hottest team in the league by winning four straight. First-year head coach Jamike Jarin has all of the Red Lions playing at a high level especially early MVP contender Art dela Cruz.
Fellow rookie mentor Rodney Santos is yet to get his full bearings in Recto with his squad at 2-6. Despite the record, the Golden Stags remain optimistic with senior Jamil Ortuoste holding steady throughout the season and sophomore Michael Calisaan emerging in recent outings.
In the day’s other game at 2:00 PM, two teams aim to climb out of the bottom of the standings when Emilio Aguinaldo College takes on Lyceum of the Philippines University.
After back-to-back wins, the Generals were halted the last time around to fall to 2-6 while the 1-6 Pirates are yet to win in nearly a month.
