IS IT ME YOU'RE LOOKING FOR? Ola Adeogun is finally re-imposing his dominant form for San Beda.
San Beda College is tied with Colegio de San Juan de Letran atop the leaderboard in the 2015 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and it’s no small thanks to Ola Adeogun.
The Nigerian was immovable in the interior and powered the Red Lions to a comfortable double-digit advantage entering the final frame last Thursday. Their opponents mounted a massive run to get as close as a single point, but it was again Adeogun who thwarted them by fronting the five-peat champions’ 12-2 finishing kick.
Before their most recent win that sent them to 7-1, it was Art dela Cruz who led San Beda by turning in MVP-level performances. The fourth-year forward’s numbers were relatively pedestrian the last time around, but he was more than happy to see his co-leader finally get his footing again.
Talking about how much the Red Lions need the real Adeogun – especially with Baser Amer still sidelined for two months – dela Cruz told ABS-CBN Sports, “Kelangang mabalik na yung totoong Ola e. ‘Di ko kaya na ako lang.”
The five-peat champions’ captain then admitted that his teammate seemed to be sleepwalking early in the season and the team made it a point to get him back to where they need him to be. “Kelangan talagang palakasin kasi siya yung tinitignan ng kalaban, hindi ako,” he said.
For his part, Adeogun said – part-warning to opponents and part-promise to his teammates – that his 28-point, 14-rebound performance will not be his best game of the season. “Wala pa ‘to. It’s just one of the games. Mahaba pa ang NCAA season and magtatrabaho lang ako palagi,” he said.
