MAKE IT RAIN. Zach Nicholls continued pouring in outside shots to give Arellano a much-needed win right before their rematch with San Beda.
Arellano University made sure they were hitting the right notes heading into the much-anticipated first meeting between the reigning finalists in the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Chiefs were firing on all cylinders from the get-go with a 30-point first quarter all the way to an easy 85-73 win against the College of St. Benilde Blazers on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
Zach Nicholls and Jiovani Jalalon combined for 13 points in the opening period to nearly outperform the entire CSB side which only had 17 points in the first 10 minutes. Arellano did not look back from that point and bloated their lead to as big as 27.
Nicholls finished with 19 points including five treys while Jalalon contributed 13 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds to move the Chiefs to 5-3 heading into their final first round assignment against the five-peat champions.
Jonathan Grey scored 24 points for the Blazers who ended the first round at 2-7.
