Akhuetie does heavy lifting as Altas score third straight
WHO GONNA STOP ME? Bright Akhuetie had no match especially in overtime.

Dave Sanchez was playing the game of his life, but it was Bright Akhuetie who took charge for University of Perpetual Help in their final game in the first round of the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament.

Sanchez forced overtime then opened it with five points, but Akhuetie then took over and finished the contest on a personal 8-3 charge to power the Altas through the Heavy Bombers, 86-83, on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.

Perpetual was on its way to ending on top in a back and forth match-up, ahead 72-70 with 17.6 on the clock. Scottie Thompson then split his free throws to widen the margin to three before JRU ran right after the rebound and found Sanchez who hit a huge trey over the outstretched arms of Nestor Bantayan.

Sanchez then scored two buckets in between one from Akhuetie to give the Bombers a 78-75 lead before the Altas’ Nigerian reinforcement bullied his way inside for six unanswered points. From thre, JRU was only able to add five points compared to Perpetual who had 11.
Akhuetie turned in a dominant 31-point, 12-rebound double-double to lift the Altas to a 7-2 finish in the first round. Talking about his rookie big man, coach Aric del Rosario said in his post-game conference, “Ganun talaga trabaho ni Bright. Masipag talaga yung bata.”

Scottie Thompson added a 13-point, 17-assists, and 13-rebound triple-double - his third in the season.

Teytey Teodoro continued to sizzle with 28 points, but only two in overtime to see JRU drop to 5-4.
