ENDING WITH A FLOURISH. The last gameday in the first round of NCAA Season 91 features all four semifinalists from a year ago.
Games on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena
2:00 PM – JRU vs Perpetual
4:00 PM – San Beda vs Arellano
The first round of the NCAA 91 Men’s Basketball Tournament is going out with a bang via the biggest match-up: a rematch of last year’s Finals between San Beda College and Arellano University.
Art dela Cruz and the Red Lions meet Jiovani Jalalon and the Chiefs anew on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena. Tip-off is at 4:00 PM.
Currently at 7-1, San Beda is a win away from closing the first round tied atop the leaderboard. With dela Cruz consistently delivering MVP-caliber numbers and the real Ola Adeogun finally emerging, the defending champions are right on track in their quest for an unprecedented sixth consecutive championship.
Jalalon has had a star-making season for himself as well and has steered Arellano to 5-3 with one game remaining. With Dioncee Holts still putting up solid numbers and Kent Salado and Zach Nicholls emerging, the league’s newest contending program has proven that their runner-up finish a season ago was no fluke.
Meanwhile, last year’s other two semifinalists are scheduled for a big match-up of their own when Jose Rizal University takes on University of Perpetual Help at 2:00 PM.
Reigning MVP Scottie Thompson is a gametime decision after spraining his ankle in their most recent outing, but the 6-2 Altas still have more than enough weapons to finish the first round strong.
However, they may just need to be at full force against a Heavy Bombers team riding high at 5-3 piloted by Teytey Teodoro and fortified by the league’s best defense.
