SLIPPING THROUGH MY FINGERS. Mark Cruz apologized for the turnover that gave Letran its second loss in the last three games.
Ryan Costelo just made an unbelievable shot to put San Sebastian College-Recoletos ahead, but Colegio de San Juan de Letran still felt great about its chances to keep pacing the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Knights had solid reason to be with Mark Cruz on their side and on point on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena. “Ant-man” received the ball and immediately went about breaking down his man before getting the space he needed to launch an attempt.
Cruz got off the ground and got ready to release his shot. However, the ball slipped from his hands and fell into the arms of Golden Stag Michael Calisaan. Not too long after, Letran suffered only its second defeat in the season.
Asked about the play, the fifth-year guard told ABS-CBN Sports, “Na-feel ko nadulas, pero hindi ako maghahanap ng reason kasi may mas maganda dapat akong nagawa (sa play).”
He then continued, “Hindi yun yung nagawa ko, pero wala nang magagawa e.”
“Ant-man” said this loss stung more than their first loss at the hands of Emilio Aguinaldo College because “ako may hawak ng bola.” He was so dejected with his crucial turnover that he shared he apologized to his team.
“Sinisisi ko sarili ko. Nag-apologize ako sa kanila dahil sa turnover na yun,” he said.
However, Cruz assured the Intramuros-based school that the team is already gearing up for a bounce back. “Bawi na lang talaga,” he said.
