BETTER AND BETTER. Art Dela Cruz turned in the best numbers of his stellar season.
Coming off a sound defeat at the hands of their opponents in last year’s Finals, San Beda College was all out to ensure they started the second round of the NCAA 91 Men’s Basketball Tournament on the right foot.
Still without the injured Baser Amer and missing the services of suspended Ola Adeogun, Art Dela Cruz delivered a career-best 30 points to lead the Red Lions to a 96-84 triumph over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.
While Dela Cruz produced 20 points and five rebounds in the initial two quarters, EAC was still able to stick close at 35-36. It was Ryusei Koga’s two dishes in an 8-0 spurt that finally gave the Red Lions some breathing room, 44-35, at halftime.
AC Soberano then made sure the five-peat champions stayed ahead by scoring all but two of his 18 points in the second half. Talking about Dela Cruz, who also added 10 rebounds, five assists, and four steals, coach Jamike Jarin said in his post-game conference, “His game speaks for itself. I'm just fortunate to coach him in his last year.”
Pierre Tankoua contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds in lieu of Adeogun as San Beda rose to 8-2
Francis Munsayac fronted the 2-8 Generals’ effort with 20 points.
