Letran’s Ayo: ‘Anybody can beat us, kung papayagan namin’
HOUSE IN CHAOS? Aldin Ayo and Letran have lost in two out of their last three outings.

After a hot 7-0 start, Colegio de San Juan de Letran has dropped two out of their last three games in the 91st NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Strikingly for the Knights, while they have taken care of business against the Final Four squads from a season ago, both of their losses have come at the hands of current bottom four teams: 3-7 San Sebastian College-Recoletos and 2-8 Emilio Aguinaldo College.

Asked about the interesting fact, head coach Aldin Ayo told ABS-CBN Sports, “Anybody can beat us, magdedepende kung papayagan namin.”

In separate interviews, the Letran backcourt of Mark Cruz and Rey Nambatac said that they are very aware that they have a hard time against the lower-ranked teams even as they soundly defeat the top-tier squads. Talking about such situation, Ayo said, “Sa amin, walang mababa, walang mataas. Sa amin, lahat sila mataas.”

Nonetheless, the Letran mentor – who just experienced his first loss while roaming the sidelines – did not look too worried that his boys dropped a close one. “There’s always a first time. Normal lang naman yung natatalo, what’s important is how we bounce back,” he said.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Ayo was serving a one-game suspension when the Knights lost to EAC. Assistant coach Louie Gonzales called the shots then.)

Ayo shared that he did not feel any disappointment with either Mark Cruz – who committed the crucial turnover – or Rey Nambatac – who was defending the game-winner – and will only make sure his boys learn from their mistakes. “Whatever the outcome, I treat them as responsible individuals who are accountable for their actions,” he said.

He then continued, “Nobody’s perfect naman so I’ll just make sure they’re come back stronger.”
