REVENGE. Whatever happens at the end of the season, Mark Cruz and Letran own at least one win against all the other teams.
There will be no team that will beat Colegio de San Juan de Letran in both rounds of the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament.
Mark Cruz made sure there wouldn't be any more shockers by ending just one point shy of his season-high in the Knights’ wire-to-wire 86-76 triumph over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
The Knights sprinted to an early 22-6 advantage and unlike their first round meeting, sustained their energy on both ends to never relinquish control until the final buzzer. Beating himself up over his team’s loss in their most recent outing, Cruz went out of his way to redeem himself with 29 points and four rebounds.
Rey Nambatac added another solid 11-point, 10-rebound double-double and Letran moved back into a first-place tie with San Beda at 9-2. “This is a big game for us after a very disappointing loss,” head coach Aldin Ayo said in his post-game conference.
The Generals, who handed the Knights their lone loss in the first round, failed to replicate their shocker despite the best efforts of Francis Munsayac who had 24 points. The fourth straight loss dropped EAC to 2-9.
