MACHINE. Scottie Thompson just keeps on churning out triple-doubles in his final season in the NCAA.
Right from the start on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena, it was clear University of Perpetual Help wasn't having another letdown.
Reigning MVP Scottie Thompson notched his fourth triple-double with 13 points, 10 assists, and 12 rebounds and the Altas took care of business against the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, 70-42, to move to 8-3 in the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament.
A frenetic Perpetual defense forced their opponents into horrible 19 percent shooting and surrendered only 20 points in the first two quarters. At the other end, GJ Ylagan and Thompson teamed up for 22 points to give the Altas a large 40-20 edge at the half.
Lyceum neared to as close as 15 points in the third, but Perpetual looked determined as ever in bouncing back from a bitter defeat in their most recent outing. As coach Aric del Rosario said in his post-game conference, “Kelangan bumawi. Nakakahiya yung nangyari sa amin.”
Ylagan finished with a career-high 15 points while Prince Eze added an 18-point, 19-rebound double-double to make up for the loss of Bright Akhuetie. The Altas’ Nigerian reinforcement sustained a left shoulder injury right before halftime and sat on the bench the rest of the way.
Jebb Bulawan's 13 points led the effort for the Pirates who saw their two-game winning streak get snapped and dropped to 3-8.
