POUNCING TIME. San Beda is no longer just a scary second-place squad, but a five-time defending champion back to pacing the league.
Games on Thursday at the San Juan Arena
2:00 PM – San Sebastian (3-8) vs Mapua (5-5)
4:00 PM – San Beda (9-2) vs JRU (6-4)
For majority of the time thus far in the 91st Season of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, San Beda College was a scary second-place squad just waiting for the right time to pounce again.
The time has come now in the second round as the Red Lions eye to reclaim the top of the leaderboard at the expense of the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers on Thursday at the San Juan Arena.
The five-peat champions look for some temporary distance between them and idle Letran at 4:00 PM.
Riding a red hot Art Dela Cruz, San Beda is coming off back-to-back that sent them to a first-place tie at 9-2. Even with Baser Amer injured and Ola Adeogun inconsistent, coach Jamike Jarin has unleashed his deep lineup unto the league en route to what appears another semifinal appearance.
Aiming for a slot alongside them is a Heavy Bomber squad that is yet to be able to sustain any sort of momentum it starts with a 6-4 record. While second-year man Teytey Teodoro has already thrust himself into the best players in the league, coach Vergel Meneses is still waiting on his veterans to step forward as well.
Meanwhile, Mapua Institute of Technology hopes to jumpstart a winning streak of their own when they take on San Sebastian College-Recoletos at 2:00 PM.
The Cardinals upset Perpetual the last time around to move to 5-5 while the Golden Stags were upended by their former mentor Topex Robinson and the Lyceum Pirates in their most recent outing to slide to 3-8.
