LONG TIME COMING. Thanks to a near triple-double from team leader Jonathan Grey, CSB has finally moved out of the cellar.
For the first time in the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament, College of St. Benilde has moved out of the cellar of the standings.
The Blazers did so in spectacular fashion in throttling the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals by 24 points, 81-57, on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
JJ Domingo and Jonathan Grey showed no mercy from tip-off and combined for 24 points in the first two quarters to outproduce all of their opponents who only mustered 18 for themselves. All in all, the Blazers dominated the Generals for a 37-18 lead by halftime.
CSB pushed their advantage to as much as 65-32 early in the fourth before EAC finally settled down and started hitting their shots. By then, it was too late as the Blazers’ early lead proved to be more than enough to move them out of last place at 3-9.
Grey ended one rebound shy of a triple-double with 12 points and 10 assists. Talking about finally arresting a four-game skid, coach Gabby Velasco said in his post-game conference, “I’m very happy na we were able to do the things na niplano namin.”
He was also quick to add, however, “I hope na malalaro rin namin ‘to against the top teams.”
Francis Munsayac scored 15 points to lead the way for the Generals who fell to the bottom of the standings at 2-10.
