Dela Cruz eclipses Akhuetie as league’s top scorer
Art Dela Cruz overtakes Bright Akhuetie as the league's leading scorer

San Beda’s Art Dela Cruz is a top-three guy.

And by top-three guy, we mean Dela Cruz is in the top three of the three major statistical categories. The do-it-all forward has been consistently keeping the Red Lions in the hunt while Baser Amer recovers from injuries and Ola Adeogun continues to look for his stride.

With Amer back however, the Mendiola version of the Big Three is complete for the first time this season, which could only mean good things for the five-time defending champions.

In the meantime, check out who’s on top and who’s dropped in the NCAA’s statistical races.

POINTS PER GAME

For the first time this season, someone else not named Bright Akhuetie is leading the league in points per game. Overtaking the Perpetual bigman is none other than Dela Cruz, who’s averaging just under 21 points per contest.

Also cracking the top-five is Arellano’s Jiovani Jalalon, who has currently been on a scoring rampage, showing that he can do more than just get the ball to his teammates. Jalalon capped last week off with a 32-point performance as part of his second triple-double of the season.

REBOUNDS PER GAME

Mapua’s Allwell Oraeme still holds down his spot as the league’s best board-crasher. Oraeme In eleven games this season, Oraeme has pulled down just shade under 19 boards per contest, and with almost six rebounds between him and second-leading rebounder Dela Cruz, it doesn’t look like Oraeme is going to be bested anytime soon.

Reigning MVP Scottie Thompson of Perpetual is the lone guard on the list, but sits at the top five with over eleven rebounds a game.

ASSISTS PER GAME

Arellano’s Jiovani Jalalon continues to live up to his “Bus Driver” monicker, getting the ball to his teammates ten times per contest.

The only forward in the top-five is, surprise surprise, Dela Cruz, who averages over six dimes per game.
