UNSUNG HERO. Mcjour Luib is the glue that holds Letran together.
Contrary to popular belief, Mark Cruz is not Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s closer.
That recognition actually belongs to little-known Mcjour Luib, at least in head coach Aldin Ayo’s view as he said, “Si Mcjour, malaking factor sa amin. He’s the closer. Pagdating sa endgame, ‘di yan nagkakamali ng desisyon.”
While Ant-man is undoubtedly the Knights’ lead guard, four-year veteran Luib is their nominal playmaker. “Ginagawa ko lang lagi yung part ko. Yung role ko kasi sa team, mag-set ng tempo, lalo na sa defense,” he told ABS-CBN Sports.
Cruz and his fellow senior Kevin Racal along with backcourt-mate Rey Nambatac have grabbed much of the attention in the Intramuros-based squad’s rise to the top of the leaderboard. Still, every contender needs role players and Luib is one of the best, if not the best, setup men in the league.
The 22-year-old has untiringly been at the forefront of the Knights’ patented full-court pressure all while serving as the signal-caller who allows the self-proclaimed league-best backcourt to do their damage away from the ball. “Si Mark at si Rey ang ganda kasi i-setup. Tapos big man mo pa si Racal. Ang sarap,” he exclaimed.
Moreover, Luib said he doesn’t mind far from eye-popping averages of six points, 3.5 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists and is more than happy being the glue that holds Letran together. “Tanggap ko yung role ko. Simula nung gumating ako sa Letran, star-studded na talaga e. Kaya kung anong matutulong ko talaga, binibigay ko,” he said.
