I know at the end of the game mayroong big play na mangyayari sa kanya --- JRU coach Vergel Meneses on guard Teytey Teodoro
Jose Rizal University coach Vergel Meneses puts his faith in Teytey Teodoro.
And the Heavy Bomber point guard rewarded his trust with the biggest play for the Mandaluyong-based squad’s all-important win against the College of St. Benilde Blazers.
Teodoro was throwing bricks the whole game, missing eight of his 13 shots including six of his seven from the three-point area.
But at the end it was his defensive play that made the difference in JRU’s 73-69 win Tuesday that kept the Heavy Bombers’ Final Four hope alive in the 91st NCAA Seniors basketball competition.
The stubby JRU point guard stripped the ball away from a cold-playing CSB guard Travis Jonson with the Bombers protecting a 71-69 lead with 15.8 seconds remaining for the winning layup – the game’s last field goal.
“Even mag-struggle siya the whole game he will be there. He’s my man, ganoon lang kasimple yun,” said Meneses of his third year court general.
Teodoro finished with 17 pointswith six rebounds, three assists and two steals for JRU’s eighth win in 14 games at sixth spot.
“I know at the end of the game mayroong big play na mangyayari sa kanya,” added Meneses.
And Teodoro did.
Just like always.
