LOOKING FOR THAT LOOK. Art Dela Cruz wants to see more inspired play from himself and San Beda.
Following San Beda College’s last-second loss to new-age rival University of Perpetual Help, Art Dela Cruz lamented that their performances of late were lacking hunger.
“Sabi nga ni coach, walang gigil, walang fire,” Dela Cruz told ABS-CBN Sports.
With their uninspired play, the Red Lions’ leader said that he keeps willing his teammates to show their championship form. “Gusto naming ibalik na kinakatakutan kami. Dati, kapag sinasabing San Beda, talagang pinaghahandaan,” he said.
With Dela Cruz essentially saying they’re not showing themselves as the five-peat defending champions, the Legarda-based squad did everything in their power to prove him wrong. The fourth-year forward’s teammates clearly took his words to heart and in the next game last Thursday, whipped Lyceum of the Philippines University with an all-out team effort.
After the game, the Bulacan native was clearly happy with his team’s effort. “Nakita ko ngayon yung gusto manalo. Ang maganda ngayon, lahat nag-deliver,” he said.
He then continued, “Binigyan kasi kami ng challenge ni coach kung pano mag-react after a loss ang ang maganda ngayon, lahat nag-respond.”
Nonetheless, the Lions’ MVP candidate said they still need to put forth more championship hunger especially with the Final Four looming. “Ipapakita namin na champion team pa rin kami. Hindi kami satisfied sa number two,” Dela Cruz exclaimed to ABS-CBN Sports.
