WINNING FEELING. Before today, San Sebastian last won at the start of the second round.
San Sebastian College-Recoletos’ fourth win in the NCAA 91 Men’s Basketball Tournament was a long time coming.
It definitely showed on Thursday at the San Juan Arena as the Golden Stags turned in a 35-point second quarter that proved to be more than enough to blow by the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 91-77.
EAC grabbed a slight 17-16 lead after the first before Spencer Pretta and Jamile Ortuouste fired 25 points in a huge second quarter blast that gave the Stags a 51-35 halftime edge.
Hamadou Laminou and Sidney Onwubere came alive in the final frame to push the Generals to 77-75, but San Sebastian went on a 14-2 closing blast to snare their fourth win in 14 games. Ortuoste and Pretta finished with 24 and 19 points, respectively.
Although already eliminated, head coach Rodney Santos said his team will still go all out. “Wala nang pressure. I-enjoy lang namin lahat habang natututo,” he said.
Francis Munsayac had 21 points to lead the way for EAC which dropped to 2-12.
