Amer says he's still not 100%

HEALTH IS WEALTH. San Beda will need a fully healthy Baser Amer in their drive for an unprecedented sixth consecutive championship.
San Beda College reclaimed first place in the NCAA 91 Men's Basketball Tournament after dousing cold water on erstwhile streaking Mapua Institute of Technology.
While Art Dela Cruz and his MVP-caliber numbers were once again the keys to victory, Baser Amer's strongest performance of the season was also a most welcome contribution. The Red Lions' court general, who missed eight games due to a shoulder injury, posted 15 points and nine rebounds against the Cardinals' flock of solid guards.
Talking about his season-best numbers, the Davao native told ABS-CBN Sports, "Sabi nga ni coach, best game ko nga raw. Ako naman, 'di ko na lang talaga iniisip yung injury ko."
Even though he's putting the shoulder injury far from his mind, Amer said that doesn't mean it has perfectly healed. "'Di pa rin talaga. Nagfo-focus pa rin ako sa therapy ko at pinapalakas ko pa rin shoulder ko," he said.
That he's still not 100 percent became clearer when he - or any other Mendiola guard, for that matter - was unable to keep in stride with Jiovani Jalalon as Arellano University pulled San Beda back down to second place last Thursday.
Jalalon collected 25 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds to thoroughly outplay his counterpart in Amer who ended with respectable yet nonetheless lacking numbers of four points, six assists, and six rebounds.
Still injured or not, the fifth-year guard said all he's concentrating on is helping the five-time defending champions get back to the Final Four, especially with six teams in a heated race. "Medyo nawawala yung winning attitude namin. Kailangan lang namin talagang mag-bounce back," he said.
