Knights out to charge towards twice-to-beat

BIG DAY. All but two Final Four contenders will be in action on Friday.
Games on Friday at the San Juan Arena
12:00 PM – San Sebastian (6-11) vs JRU (11-6)
2:00 PM – EAC (2-14) vs Mapua (10-6)
4:00 PM – Perpetual (11-6) vs Letran (12-4)
Just two gamedays remaining in the 91st Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament and no team has clinched a berth in the next round – even more so a twice-to-beat advantage.
Colegio de San Juan de Letran seeks to change all that with just one win, but it will have to come against a University of Perpetual Help side fighting for dear life on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
The Knights try to earn a top two finish while the Altas try to keep in step for the other two spots at 4:00 PM and all of the action will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23 as well as streamed live on sports.abs-cbn.com.
With a 12-4 record, Letran has two chances to earn the magic number of 13 wins which entails a twice-to-beat advantage. However, the latter of those chances will be against old-time rivals San Beda College who are stinging off a loss last Thursday and will only be desperate to avoid any complications.
Ergo, Mark Cruz and company recognize this will be their best chance to seal their return to the Final Four. While it will be far from easy, the Knights will be coming into the crucial contest following a morale-boosting comeback win against Arellano University.
Morale isn’t exactly high for Perpetual after back-to-back defeats have suddenly sent them from solo third to a logjam for third to fifth spots. Curiously, the Las Pinas-based squad’s struggles started when some of their players got involved in the infamous parking lot incident.
While coach Aric del Rosario’s hopes for a twice-to-beat advantage is still alive, Scottie Thompson and Bright Akhuetie are more concerned with just clinching a playoff berth and stretching their streak of playoff appearances to four.
Meanwhile, Jose Rizal University and Mapua Institute of Technology look to stay in the hunt for a spot in the next round as they take on separate foes.
At 12:00 PM, the Heavy Bombers eye to extend their win run in do-or-die games to six against the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags who eye to add another victim to their list of upsets that already includes Letran, San Beda, and Perpetual.
Then at 2:00 PM, the Cardinals aim to avoid any letdown against the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals as just one loss will eliminate them from contention and end their season of resurgence early.
