BEFORE THE STORM. JRU and Mapua still need to settle who between them is the third-seed.
Games on Friday at the MOA Arena
2:00 PM – CSB-LSGH vs Arellano
4:00 PM – JRU vs Mapua
Although seemingly non-bearing, the matchup between Jose Rizal University and Mapua Institute of Technology on Friday at the MOA Arena could actually prove to be quite significant for either team.
The Heavy Bombers and the Cardinals will be contesting the three-seed in the Final Four of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament – meaning battling second-ranked Colegio de San Juan de Letran who both of them own one win against.
Whoever comes out on the losing end of the matchup drops to the four-seed, setting a date with top-ranked five-time defending champion San Beda College who neither of them have beaten.
The final contest before the Final Four proper tips-off at 4:00 PM and all of the action will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23 as well as streamed LIVE on sports.abs-cbn.com.
The matchup also pits the two hottest teams in the league with the Bombers on a six-game winning streak and the Cardinals boasting an 8-1 record since the start of the second round.
Mapua is back to at full-force with starting guard Exi Biteng returning from his one-game suspension. On the other hand, JRU may be without Paolo Pontejos who led them in scoring in the second round.
Pontejos had been grieving his father’s passing and was unable to practice for the whole week. Still, he told ABS-CBN Sports, “I’ll be there. I want to play pero si coach na bahala kung gagamitin ako o hindi.”
Meanwhile, the stepladder playoffs in the Juniors division begins with third-seed Arellano High School facing fourth-seed College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills at 2:00 PM.
Awaiting the victor is second-seed Malayan High School and looming with a thrice-to-beat advantage in the Finals is San Beda High School.
