New chapter unfolds in legendary San Beda-Letran rivalry
San Beda vs. Letran is always something to look forward to especially if it happens in the NCAA finals.

The NCAA's most famous rivalry takes center stage once again as five-time defending champion San Beda Red Lions and the Letran Knights dispute the Season 91 championship.

The Red Lions, whose return to power in the last decade meant that they are the new class of the league will be looking for a sixth straight title and a record 20th overall.

Their chief rival Knights hope that the fourth time is the charm as they try to win their first championship in 10 years and try to move closer in the eternal battle for titles with a 17th crown.

It will be only the fifth time since 1950 that these two rivals have faced off in the ultimate round, Letran's "Murder Inc." took first blood over 60 years ago before the Red Lions won "The Dream Finals" in 2007 during the early beginnings of their modern-day dynasty.

San Beda has since dominated the rivalry, both in the regular season and the Final Four before Letran posed the most serious challenge to the Red Lions' dominance since Calvin Abueva was still wearing a San Sebastian jersey.

The Knights engaged the Red Lions in back-to-back finals in 2012 and 2013, losing both series in three games.

In Season 91, the unheralded Knights took everbody by surprise with their suffocating defense to lead the league for most of the year before the Red Lions turned to their signature poise and championship experience to be the favorites in the playoffs for the 10th straight years.

The rivals split their regular season assignments and finished with the same record. Although the defending champions hold the mental edge after taking the 1st-seed playoff.

With another chapter to this rivalry, who will add another championship to its impressive collection?

Find out as the San Beda Red Lions and the Letran Knights open the NCAA Season 91 Finals at 4 p.m. later at the MOA Arena. Live telecast at ABS-CBN Sports and Action and Balls HD. Live streaming on sports.abs-cbn.com
