NECK AND NECK. This NCAA season has been so tight that only one player from the Mythical Five is in the Finals.
Much has been said about how heated the 91st Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament has been.
Now, however, we just might have the definitive proof.
The tournament’s Mythical Team was announced last Friday and headlining it is Most Valuable Player-Rookie of the Year-Defensive Player of the Year Allwell Oraeme from Mapua Institute of Technology.
Rounding out the Mythical Team are Arellano University’s Jiovani Jalalon, San Beda College’s Art Dela Cruz, and University of Perpetual Help’s Bright Akhuetie and Scottie Thompson.
Anything interesting for you from that list?
How about the fact that Arellano and Perpetual failed to make the Final Four and they have three representatives in the Mythical Team?
Or what about the fact that, among the Mythical Five, only Dela Cruz is playing in the Finals?
Did you even notice that Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the team that is one win away from their first championship since 2005, has no Mythical selection?
Yes, that is how crazy heated the season has been.
Even the Mythical selections who were unable to advance into the Final Four had to admit it. As Thompson, last year’s MVP, put it, “Ganun talaga katindi ang NCAA. Lahat ng teams, hindi minamaliit, lahat lumalaban.”
Mythical and Perpetual teammate Akhuetie added, “I can’t say (this award) tells we are better than the other guys out there. There are great guys in other teams and we really respect what they contributed to their teams.”
