“Sabi ko sa kanila, sabi ko kay coach, hindi pa ‘tapos ‘to. Bale wala yung pinaghirapan namin kung matalo kami sa game three,”
The San Beda Red Lions headed into game two of the NCAA Season 91 in danger of kissing their historic six-peat dreams goodbye. The Letran Knights had them reeling after game one, and the Intramuros boys had all the momentum and confidence in the world.
Game two went pretty much the same way that game one went, both teams going back and forth making for yet another classic rivalry game. This time however, the Red Lions came out on top, extending the series to a final game for all the marbles.
All game long, Baser Amer was more vocal and more animated than usual, grabbing teammates and barking out directions before falling victim to cramps late.
“Yun talaga yung trabaho ko.” Amer told ABS-CBN Sports. “As a point guard, yun talaga yung trabaho ko, a leader.”
Amer, who has tasted success in all his years wearing the Bedan red and white, wasn’t ready to call it a series – and an NCAA career – just yet.
But of course, leveling the series is just half the battle for San Beda. With one last game left, there’s more work to be done, and Amer knows that.
“Sabi ko sa kanila, sabi ko kay coach, hindi pa ‘tapos ‘to. Bale wala yung pinaghirapan namin kung matalo kami sa game three,” the graduating floor general said.
Amer is among a handful of senior Red Lions who will be playing the last game of their NCAA career, including Art Dela Cruz and Ola Adeogun.
Before they say goodbye to the red and white though, Amer and the seniors have a chance to make history by giving San Beda a sixth straight NCAA title.
“Hindi namin sasayangin yung opportunity na ‘to.” Said the former Finals MVP.
