Grethcel Soltones finished with 16 points to help San Sebastian win its second straight match.
Last year’s runner-up San Sebastian is off to a fiery start with reigning Most Valuable Player Gretchcel Soltones leading the way.
The national team mainstay played like she never came from a shoulder injury in the off season, scoring 16 points in the Lady Stags’ 25-15, 25-16, 25-19, demolition of the San Beda Red Lionesses Wednesday in the 91st NCAA women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Soltones slammed 15 of the squad’s 39 kills and was active on the defensive end with five excellent digs for SSC-R, which climbed to solo lead. Jolina Labiano and Joyce Sta. Rita combined for 16 markers.
The Lady Stags also banked on their vaunted net defense with six points off block kills and was sharp on the service line with seven aces.
San Beda absorbed its second straight loss of the season and 11th in a row after a listless campaign last year.
Meanwhile, Jose Rizal University barged in the win column as the Lady Bombers edged the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals, 27-25, 11-25, 25-15, 25-18.
Rosalie Pepito and Shola Alvarez scored 17 each for the Lady Bombers, which tied their victim with 1-1 record.
