FOR NOW. Glenn Capacio is the coach Aldin Ayo recommended as his replacement.
The question as to who will take over for Aldin Ayo in Colegio de San Juan de Letran now has an answer – in the lead-up to the upcoming National Collegiate Championship, at least.
Glenn Capacio has been handling the practices of the Knights for the champions’ tournament that will begin on December 9. By virtue of being NCAA champions, they are automatically in the Elite Eight and will get their first taste of action on December 13.
The development was confirmed to ABS-CBN Sports by senior guards Rey Nambatac and Mcjour Luib. “Si coach Glenn, kasama si coach Nap (Garcia) at coach Al (Ogahayon), sila muna magte-take charge,” Nambatac said right after a training session led by Capacio on Wednesday.
Asked about it however, Capacio said that him calling the shots during the NCC is yet to be set in stone. “Sa ngayon, wala pang desisyon yung management kung ako magha-handle (sa NCC). Ang ginagawa lang naming coaching staff is patakbuhin yung training ng team,” he said.
Whether or not he serves as shot-caller during the NCC, nothing is still official with regards to Letran’s next head coach.
Last Friday, Ayo himself confirmed that he was taking his talents from Intramuros to Taft Avenue. The new mentor of De La Salle University left behind a feel-good Letran team he inspired to a championship in only his first year.
Replacing the Sorsogon native will be nothing but a tall task for anyone. As Nambatac shared, “Grabe yung tiwalang binigay ni coach (Ayo) sa amin e. mahirap makahanap ng coach na tulad niya.”
