Perpetual Help kept its immaculate record intact after defeating erstwhile unbeaten College of St. Benilde.
Perpetual Help made a clean sweep of College of St. Benilde in all three divisions of the 91st NCAA volleyball competition at The Arena in San Juan Friday.
The Altas turned back the Blazers, 25-21, 25-27, 25-20, 25-20, for a perfect 4-0 win-loss record while dealing CSB its first loss in four outings.
Bonjomar Castel led all hitters with 20 points, 13 of which came on spikes, while Manuel Doliente and Rey Taneo, Jr. scattered 17 and 10, respectively, for the Las Pinas-based spikers.
John Vic De Guzman finished with 19 points while Racmade Etrone and Isaah Arda scored 13 each for the Blazers, who finished second last year behind the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals
In women's play, Perpetual Help overcame St. Benilde, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 16-14, to improve to 2-2 and duplicate its men's squad's feat.
Cindy Imbo unloaded 19 hits as the Lady Altas hand the Lady Blazers their first defeat after a three-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, the Lady Generals crushed the Mapua Lady Cardinals, 25-22, 19-25, 25-17, 25-22, behind Negrina Pagdanganan’s 15 points.
EAC improved to 3-2 card while the Lady Cardinals dove deeper in the cellar with five straight losses.
The defending champion Junior Altas started the school’s rampage with a 38-minute demolition of the Junior Blazers, 25-8, 25-8, 25-7, to remain unbeaten in three games to stay on top of the high school contest.
Perpetual dominated the game entirely that the Junior Blazers, winless in three games, scored only seven points from their offense while the rest of their 16 markers of the match came from errors committed by the Junior Altas.
Ryuji Etorma displayed his scoring prowess for Perpetual with 19 points coming from nine spikes, two block kills and eight service aces, just two winners short of tying the season-high set by Michael Imperial of former champion EAC Brigadiers last Dec. 5 against San Beda.
