Reigning Most Valuable Player Howard Mojica led the defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals to a Final Four seat.
Defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College reasserted its mastery over the College of St. Benilde Blazers, turning what was expected to be an explosive rematch of last year’s finals into a rout as the Generals secured the first Final Four seat in the 91st NCAA men’s volleyball competition.
The Generals behind ace hitter and reigning Most Valuable Player Howard Mojica once again emerged on top with a shockingly easy 25-17, 25-23, 25-21 victory over the Blazers to improve to 7-1 on solo top spot Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Mojica torched the defense of CSB to finish with 26 points. The EAC scorer drilled in 21 attacks to pummel the Blazers with three more coming from block kills and a pair of service aces. He also displayed superb floor defense after shoveling five of the team’s 15 excellent digs.
Israel Encina added 12 markers for the Generals, who handed CSB its second loss in seven games and third straight defeat in their head-to-head dating back from last season's championship series.
EAC’s last assignment is against the undefeated Perpetual Help on Friday where a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four is at stake.
Racmade Etrone scored 13 points while John Vic De Guzman had a disappointing outing with only eight markers for the Blazers.
Meanwhile, eliminated San Sebastian bested Letran, 18-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23, to improve to a 3-4 mark.
The Knights absorbed their fifth loss in seven matches.
