Preview rin ng UAAP volleyball I guess --- Kiefer Ravena
Ateneo de Manila star Kiefer Ravena for a short while joined the ABS-CBN Sports panel of anchor Andrei Felix and analyst Melissa Gohing.
But no, he’s not a part of the broadcast crew calling the 91st NCAA men’s Finals Game 2 between Perpetual Help and defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College Friday.
The two-time UAAP basketball Most Valuable Player was at The Arena in San Juan to enjoy the game with his family and give support to his good friend Grethcel Soltones of San Sebastian Lady Stags.
“Support namin si Grethcel she’s part of our family, quote unquote, support rin kay coach Roger (Gorayeb) of course nandyan, ‘yun lang,” said Ravena, who was with his mom, Mozzy, a former University of Sto. Tomas volleybelle and UAAP volleyball analyst, and sister Dani.
The thrice-to-beat Lady Stags, unfortunately, absorbed its second straight loss to College of St. Benilde, 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 16-25, leaving Soltones and SSC-R buried in a twice-to-win hole in a reversal of fortunes.
Ravena is a big volleyball fan, playing the sport in grade school before shifting to shooting hoops.
The national team member who won a record three gold medals in the Southeast Asian Games said that watching the NCAA is like a warmup for him heading into the 78th UAAP season where he is expected to cheer his heart out for Ateneo and its superstar Alyssa Valdez.
“Preview rin ng UAAP volleyball I guess,” he said. “Syempre kasi naglalaro rin ako ng volleyball.”
Asked if he’s interested to try out for the UAAP panel, the Phenom just smiled as he excused himself to join his family watching the game in the rafters.
