KNIGHTS' BEST FRIENDS. Letran and NU are only happy to share champion coach Jeff Napa with each other.
Formally beginning last Tuesday, Jeff Napa will now be a regular in Intramuros.
However, that doesn’t mean that he will be leaving behind Sampaloc just yet.
As has been speculated last Friday, the new mentor of Colegio de San Juan de Letran will still be part of the staff over at Nazareth School of National University – although whether still head coach or consultant is yet to be determined. “Yung love ko sa alma mater ko, ‘di ko matatawaran. Apilyido ko na nga yung NU, diba,” Napa himself told reporters.
The three-time UAAP Juniors coach said that while his alma mater and new employer are still working out the specifics, they both have no problem sharing him with each another. Letran father rector Clarence Marquez also expressed as much in saying, “We’re not taking him away, but are recognizing him as NU’s gift to us.”
However, the new mentor of the Knights clarified that his entry doesn’t necessarily mean that he will be bringing along others from NU with him – save for his coaching staff. Asked if UAAP Juniors Finals MVP and prized prospect Justine Baltazar will be tagging along with him, he responded, “Ang priority ko is kung anong nandito sa Letran.”
He then continued, “Yung mga naiwan, kayang punan yung mga nawala. Nasanay naman ako sa no-superstar na team.”
As for the Bullpups, Napa said that whatever arrangement is agreed upon, he is nothing but confident that the defending UAAP Juniors champions will be in good hands with Chico Manabat.
