WALLS OF JEFFERSON. A new sheriff is in town in Intramuros with Jeff Napa now calling the shots in Letran's impending title defense.

A month ago, Rey Nambatac and Mcjour Luib told ABS-CBN Sports that they hoped their next coach would be someone who would keep them on the right path on and off the court.

While it was the first time they met him and it was only for a short while, the two feel like they got their wish when Jeff Napa was officially named as the new mentor of Colegio de San Juan de Letran last Tuesday. As Nambatac said, “Magaan pakiramdam namin sa kanya kanina habang nagsasalita siya.”

He also added, “Basta magtutulong-tulungan kami, wala namang rason para hindi kami malagay sa tama.”

Going into specifics, the widely-regarded next King Knight said they were actually impressed that their new mentor gave them no guarantees. “Wala pa siyang sinasabi tungkol sa goals namin at ang sabi lang niya, hindi raw siya sanay magsalita kasi mas sanay siya magtrabaho sa court. So nakita na namin na si coach, trabaho talaga,” he shared.

Luib, currently on a retreat and was absent when Napa met his new wards, was still able to share the same enthusiasm as his teammates. “I’m excited to follow and learn from a champion coach. Alam naman ng lahat na nagba-basketball na winner siya,” he told ABS-CBN Sports.

For his part, the new Letran coach said he felt nothing but warmth inside the walls of Muralla. “Yung pag-welcome nila father at ng mga bata sa akin, very special na nakaka-overwhelm,” he said.
